Welcome

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is an associated office at the DJELR and is based at Garda Headquarters in the Phoenix Park, Dublin 8.

Our objective is to assist in the investigation of crime and to serve the administration of justice in an effective manner by a highly trained and dedicated staff providing scientific analysis and objective expert evidence to international standards.

Our commitment to meeting this objective is detailed in our Customer Service Charter.

About the Laboratory

The FSL was established in 1975 and is accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board to ISO 17025.  Laboratory staff consists of scientists, analysts and support personnel who are all civil servants.

We provide scientific assistance to agencies involved in criminal investigation, mainly An Garda Síochána.

We also provide assistance to other agencies eg. GSOC, Military Police, Customs & Excise and the Department of Agriculture.

The laboratory is not available to carry out examinations for private citizens. All samples examined must be submitted by AGS or other law enforcement agencies. There is no charge for the service provided.
