Biology

The Biology section deals largely with crimes against the person and is divided into two teams - the Murder/Assault Team and the Sexual Assault Team.

Items submitted to the laboratory are examined for the presence of body fluids such as:

Upon the identification of a body fluid the sample is subjected to DNA profiling in an attempt to determine the likely source.

Clothing is also examined for the presence of damage and trace evidence such as hairs and fibres.

Scientists from the biology section attend crime scenes with members of the CSI teams from the Technical Bureau.
