The annual ENFSI (
European Network of Forensic Science Institutes) Drugs Working Group meeting was hosted by FSI in Dublin Castle on May 5th-8th. Delegates from 32 countries met in Dublin for the 4 day conference, which was opened by Minister for Health, Dr Leo Varadkar. The yearly DWG conference acts as a platform for information exchange on new developments and trends. Topics covered at the event in Dublin included: New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) and the challenges presented by them in different jurisdictions; sampling of illicit drugs for quantitative analysis; applications of new technologies for the identification of drugs and the effect of accreditation on routine laboratory analyses.
