Amanda Lennon presented a talk ...

Amanda Lennon presented a talk entitled Evaluation of findings in Hit and Run investigations at the 9th International Conference on Forensic Inference and Statistics in Leiden, Holland between the 19th and 22nd August 2014. This conference focuses on probabilistic methods for the evaluation of forensic evidence and promotes interaction between lawyers, statisticians and forensic scientists.

The talk covered the evaluation of paint transfer evidence and how the background information in a case will influence the selection of propostions for consideration and therefore the likelihood ratio value calculated. It is important to select the appropriate defence proposition to guard against "double counting" of the evidence.
